Proposed mechanism of the oncogenic property of IL-6 in the prostate. The pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-6 in the prostate, as a result of inflammation or peri-prostatic obesity, induce autocrine and paracrine pathway and amplify inflammation in the prostate tissue environment and peri-prostate adipose tissue which subsequently induces transcriptional reprogramming in the prostate and tumorigenesis
