Mechanism of cell death during mitotic arrest. a MPF complex promotes the induction of apoptosis through direct phosphorylation of different pro-/anti-apoptotic factors. CDK1-mediated inactivating phosphorylation of the BCL2 and BCL-xL and activatory phosphorylation of the pro-apoptotic BIM. MPF complex also promotes the degradation of MCL-1 via APC/CCDC20.
