  1. *After de qi was detected, electrical stimulation was applied using an electro-acupuncture stimulator (IC-1107, ITO Co., LTD, Tokyo, Japan) at alternating frequencies (2–100 Hz) as follows: pair one-Lv3 negative, Gb 42 positive; pair two-LI 4 negative, SI 3 positive. Voltage was adjusted to patient tolerance (ie., able to feel strong stimulation without pain).
